The colonial government in India required a huge supply of wood to satisfy their need for industrial works. They were worried about the deforestation and wanted to have full control over the process of deforestation. Therefore, the British authority called Dietrich Brandis, who was a Botanist from Germany-Britain. He gave some ideas to conserve the forests of India including the need to train people in the science of conservation, implementation of the new rules with regard to the forest, and restriction of grazing in the forests. To take control of deforestation in India the British authority promoted commercial crops such as sugar, cotton, jute, and indigo. Moreover, such crops served as the raw material for the British industries.
