Role of India in Non-Alignment Movement

Explanation:

  • Jawaharlal Nehru was one of the main leaders of the Non-Aligned Movement. Along with the leaders of Yugoslavia, Egypt, Ghana and Indonesia, Nehru spearheaded the movement which sought to bring together countries which were unaligned with either the USA or the USSR during the Cold War. Nehru's high standing in international affairs inspired many countries to join this movement.
  • Nations in Asia, Africa were decolonized or freed and began their development but these nations were weak on all fronts, illiteracy, poverty, food scarcity were the weak points so they decided to take route of socialism to eradicate poverty,( USSR was role model that time) Nasser, Sukarno, Tito,Jawaharlal Nehru are the founders of NAM Except Jawaharlal Nehru other s were ruling small nations under weak economies and India was the only big nation as fulcrum of movement.NAM fought against western hegemony and during cold war period saved developing nations from escalating crisis.Jawaharlal Nehru has important role in NAM . He helped many developing nations during his tenure.India had cordial relations with all nations.
