Rods and cones are photo receptors present in the human eye. They help in visual perception as they are used to detect light. They are present in a thin layer present at the back of the eye called the retina which also contains nerves that tell the brain what the photo receptors recieve.

Rods are responsible for vision at low light levels and cones for high light levels.

Rod cells are more sensitive than cones and are present in greater number.

Cones are responsible for colour vision, rod cells do not mediate that.
