The caste system is far from a rigid system, in which the position of each caste is fixed forever. A caste has been, in a generation or two, able to rise up in the hierarchy, by adopting the rituals and pantheons of the twice borns/dwijas/B,K,V. This process is referred to as 'sanskritization', by Srinivas in 1952, while studying the Coorgs of Rampura.
Two important things to be noted are: firstly, sanskritization is an example of group mobility and not individual mobility.

Moreover there has never been a uniformity through the length and breadth of India as to which are typical Brahmin customs and practices. Tamil Brahmins are purest of the pure while Bengali Brahmins do not eat fish. Further, what was culturally accepted as sanskritic during vedic period of Hinduism, was in some cases a taboo in the periods which followed. Vedic Hinduism was magico-animistic, vedic Brahmins drank soma (liquor), offered animal sacrifice and ate beef. These all were later, prohibited.

hope helps ☺️☺️☺️☺️
