The play-within-the play's significance to the plot of the main story is that the story of Pyramus and Thisbe is basically the situation that Hermia and Lysander were in. Both the couples were madly in love with each other and wanted to get married but they couldn't because their families disapproved of it. Seeing that they do not have any other way out, both the couples decide to elope and meet in the woods.
