let males be x
females be x+36
total people be y
so we have x + x+36 = y --- 1
x+6/8y = y
x = 2/8 y
substitute x = 2/8 y in 1
4/8y + 36 = y
36 = 1/2y
y = 72
males = 2/8*72 = 18
females be x+36
total people be y
so we have x + x+36 = y --- 1
x+6/8y = y
x = 2/8 y
substitute x = 2/8 y in 1
4/8y + 36 = y
36 = 1/2y
y = 72
males = 2/8*72 = 18
