The first teacher of the Valmiki's childhood was Sewak Ram Masihi.He was only teacher that sit with the untouchables people and teach them how to read and write.

It was an open air school and valmiki and many other students has learned alphabets but when Valimiki' father came into an arguement he took him into another Basic school.

  • "Joothan" is an autobiography of birth and life of Omprakash Valmiki which is a great poet and short story writer in hindi.
  • Valmiki's father took him to new basic school where the untouchables were allowed to study as per Mahatma Gandhi's advice, but the headmaster told him to come next day.
  • His father kept going for several days and finally Valmiki was admitted to the school.
  • The student and teacher make funs of Valmiki,he used to sit on the floor not even the mat was provided.
  • The teacher and students keep teasing him and saying inappropriate words.
  • One day the headmaster told him to climb teak tree and break some twigs.
  • And after that he told him to make a broom out of if and sweep the field while saying this is your family passion.
