Freedom is the  most important element of a democracy. It is because of freedom we have fundamental rights in our country.People watch over the government and its functioning all the time. They find faults with the government if there is corruption in the forms of scams or inflation. People are critical of government decisions at times. The media also highlights the misdemeanors of the government. At such times , the government has to review its action, else it is removed from powers.

Equality is another important facet of democracy. Men and women, rich and poor --all are treated equally in a democracy. Freedom and equality gives people all the right to choose their leader. The method of voting is called as secret ballot. Here no voter knows which candidate the other voters are voting for and vise versa. In India all the person above 18 years or 18 years can register their name in voter's list and have own Voter's id.
Thank you !!

Hope it helps :)
