in sexual reproduction the offspring acquire one set of its genes from its mother and the other from its father, this is the reason why the offspring resembles its parents slightly due to inheriting the genes from its parents ,the variations are because of the recombination of genes that occur while crossing over which leads to certain non harmful mutations leading to difference in the phenotype of the individual from its parent. in asexual reproduction the offspring acquires the same genome of its parent (only one parent involved) hence no recombination occurs and hence no variations.
