Answer:

The pentose phosphate pathway takes place in the cytosol of the cell, the same location as glycolysis. The two most important products from this process are the ribose-5-phosphate sugar used to make DNA and RNA, and the NADPH molecules which help with building other molecules.

Pentose Phosphate Pathway:

Pentose Phosphate Pathway is also called the PMP pathway or the hexose monophosphate shunt. This pathway is seen in both plants and animals. In plants, the site of occurrence of this pathway is mainly plastids. Cytosol is also involved there but to a much smaller extent.

In animals, mainly humans, PMP pathway is seen mainly in the RBCs. This is because the RBCs doesn’t contain all the enzymes in enough amount to produce the glycolysis. So, the HMP pathway is registered there. Other sites include the highly dividing cells as this pathway produces pentose sugars, required for the production of nucleotides.
