Answer:

The main theme of The Merchant of Venice is the conflict between love and self interest. On the surface level, the major difference between Shylock the Jew and the Christian characters of the play is their level of compassion.

It is basically a story between Christan and Jews. They always have conflicts and fights. This is a beautifully written novel by Shakspear.

Sumaary of the story- In short, this story has a Jewish moneylender, Shylock and a merchant of Venice, Antonio. Antonio defaults on a large loan provided by the  moneylender, Shylock. A debt or punishment, especially a cruel or unreasonable one, that is harshly insisted upon. An allusion to Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, in which the moneylender Shylock demands he be paid the pound of flesh promised as collateral for a loan

And this is from where the story escalates.

I have just written a brief summary for the novel. You may add extra points. This is simply just a draft.
