1- People's perceptions :- this is the most important factor that decides the outcome of politics of social division. if the people see their identities in singular and exclusive terms then it will lead to social division and violence.
2- Raising the demands by political leaders:- the outcome of polics also depends on how political leaders raise the demands of any community. it is easier to accommodate demands that are within the Constitutional framework.

1.How people precieve their identities-In northern Ireland people divided themselves between catholics and protestants. while in belgium people feel they are Belgians as much as they are dutch and French speaking. In India we are Indians as well as we belong to a state or religion.
2. How the political parties raise their demand It is easier to satisfy the demands which do not cause trouble to another community and are within constitutional framework. The demand for only sinhala caused trouble to tamils and resulted to civil war.
3. How government respond to their demands If the reasonable demands of community are suppressed by government then it leads to social division in the country.In Belgium government amended the Constitution several times according to the needs of people and conflicts were avoided.
