wo HR activities in which a multinational firm must engage that would not berequired in a domestic environment. The auto manufacturer I work with is based out of China and they have many expatriatesthat travel overseas to the United States to their U.S. headquarters in Michigan for business related needs. The number one HR activity that the company must engage in is language translation services (Dowling, Festing, & Engle, 2013, p.5).. The minority language for the auto manufacturer is English; therefore it is necessary that we have translators present to help communicate between the Chinese and American associates. The communication barrier can make it difficult to not only communicate by speaking with another colleague, but with customers, and via e-mail communication. Proper communication is essential in making sure that all parties involved understand what the process and procedures are to ensure proper product or services are being completed. The other HR activity that I witness due to the constant travel and relocation of associates between the U.S. and China is HR assisting with the associate’s personal lives (Dowling, Festing, & Engle, 2013, p.6). I know the company I work with has a an HR representative that helps assist employees in setting up their travel arrangements by booking passports, flights, hotels, car services, health care services, orientation needs, etc. It is necessary for the HR team to be involved to make sure the expatriates understand the housing arrangements, health care, and all aspects of their compensation package for the assignment (cost-of-living allowance, premiums, taxes, etc. ) (Dowling, Festing, & Engle, 2013, p.6). HavingHR team members assist in the international travel and relocation is necessary because the associates traveling may not be aware of international law and what documents are needed to enter and leave the country properly. For example, some countries may require people entering
