It is hard to associate neurophysiological traits with personality. A trait would be considered as the characteristic of a person whereas the type would be broad section of similar traits grouped into one.

For example an introverts trait is that he likes to stay away from socialization with random individuals whereas an extrovert is a social butterfly. An introvert is a type and his lack of socializing skill is his trait.

Now this personality type can be aroused through mental stimulation. For example what would motivate an introvert to socialize or not socialize. Similar with an extrovert.

Therefore, traits can be aroused or depressed through neurophysiological stimuli.
