Displacement can be zero but distance cannot why?

Distance cannot be zero because it is the actual path travelled by an object and it is scalar quantity as it depends only on the magnitude , but not on direction. Whereas in case of Displacement. It is the shortest path travelled by an object from the initial position to the final position of an object
