Magnitude of displacement is may be equal to the magnitude of distance or smaller than it but it never better than the magnitude of distance .

PROOF
If an object moves in zig zag manner the shortest distance must be the displacement of that object that means the distance between the final position and the initial position that is a straight line so it is the shortest distance that is displacement is the shortest distance and smaller than it.
If an object moves a distance and return to initial position then the displacement is zero which is smaller than the distance covered by it .
If it if moves in a straight line and rcover distance that is the displacement will be equal to the distance covered by it. Because in this case distance covered is in a straight line that means this is the shortest distance i.e. the displacement of that object .
