Explanation:

Karyokinesis is defined as the division of the nucleus during the M phase of the cell cycle. It is the first step in M phase. This process does not depend on cytokinesis. It divides the genetic material equally. The daughter chromosome is separated into two daughter nuclei.

Cytokinesis, on the other hand, is defined as the division of the cytoplasm during the M phase of the cell cycle. It is the second step in M phase. This process depends on karyokinesis and cannot occur without karyokinesis. It is the final stage of mitosis, where the cytoplasm and other cell organelles divides between the two daughter cells.

What is Karyokinesis?

It is the biological process in which involving the division of a cells nucleus during mitosis or meiosis.

This process is further divided into four stages such as the

  • prophase,
  • metaphase,
  • anaphase, and
  • telophase.

What is Cytokinesis?

Cytokinesis and Karyokinesis are the important phases for cell division. Which are involved in both meiosis and mitosis process.

The difference between cytokinesis and Karyokinesis are as follows :

  1. It is the biological process in which involving of the division of a cell cytoplasm during mitosis or meiosis.
  2. Stages such as the prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase are not present in case of cytokinesis.
