Take Zn2+ and Pb2+ solution mixture and add excess ammonia solution. The zinc is dissolved as a soluble ammine. ead is precipitated. Filter, and keep filtrate containing Zn only.

2] acidify filtrate using HNO3 to return to Zn2+ ions, then slowly add Na2CO3 solution. There will be effervescing as it first neutralises the HNO3, then ZnCO3 will be precipitated. Let settle and coagulate the filter using a buchner funnel. Thoroughly wash the residue on the filter paper with distilled water, then allow to dry. You have pure ZnCO3. Na+ and NH4+ ions present from treatment remain
