1) Vent and Crater

Vent:- A vent of a volcano opens on the side of a volcano and can not seal itself.

Crater:- The crater of a volcano is always situated on the top and it can seal itself to form a new crater.

2) Dormant and Extinct Volcanoes

Dormant Volcano:- Those volcanoes which have not erupted since a long time but can erupt in the coming future are known as dormant volcanoes. For ex:- Mt Pelee, Hekla etc.

Extinct Volcanoes:- The volcanoes which have not erupted since a long time and have no chance of erupting in the future are known as extinct volcanoes. For ex:- Mt Kilimanjaro, Ben Nevis etc.

3) Focus and Epicentre

Focus:- The origin of the earthquake is known as focus. It is the place where rocks start to fracture.

Epicentre:- The point on earth just above the focus is known as the epicentre of an earthquake.

4) Seismology and Seismologist

Seismology:- The science related to the study of earthquakes is known as seismology.

Seismologist:- The people who study seismology are known as seismologists.
