Both these terms are related to population of a country.

Absolute number is the magnitude or actual size of the growth of a population.Actual number may be derived by subtracting the previous year population from the current year. For e.g. last year population was 100 and this year it is 150 so the absolute number of growth is 50.

Annual growth rate is the overall percentage of population growing in a particular year. For e.g. if it is said that annual growth rate of a population is 5% then it means that there is an increase of 5 people per 100 people in a given year.
