Active element: Those devices or components which produce energy in the form of voltage or current are called as Active Components.
Example- generators, batteries, and operational amplifiers etc.
Passive element: Those devices or components which store or maintain but can not generate Energy in the form of Voltage or Current are known as Passive Components.
Example- capacitor, inductor, resistor etc.

A passive element is an electricalcomponent that does not generate power, but instead dissipates, stores, and/or releases it. Passive elements include resistances, capacitors, and coils (also called inductors). These components are labeled in circuit diagrams as Rs, Cs and Ls, respectively.
