Ionic bonds are formed between elements having mush electronegativity difference Generally between metals and non metals.
Whereas covalent compounds are formed between elements having less electronegativity diff. and generally between non metals. They have low melting point and boiling point where as ionic compounds have high m.p and boiling point.

IONIC COMPOUNDS.
-------------------------------
1} ionic compounds are usually crystalline solid
2]ionic compounds have high melting point and boiling point ,that is ,ionic compounds are non -volatile .
3]Ionic compounds conduct electricity when desolved in water melted .
4]Ionic compounds are usually soluble in water .
5]ionic compounds are insoluble in organic solved (like alcohol ether ,acetone ,etc )
#COVALENT COMPOUND
-------------------------------------
1]Covalent compound are usually liquid or gaseous only some of them are solid .
2] Covalent compound have usually low melting point .that is Covalent compound are usually volatile .
3] Covalent Compound do not conduct electricity .
4] Covalent Compound are usually insoluble in water (except ,glucose ,sugar Urea etc )
5] Covalent Compound are soluble in organic solvents >
Hope it helps you !!
