↪Crystalline & Amorphous Solid↩

● Crystals have an orderly arrangement of their constituent particles.

● In comparison, amorphous solids have no such arrangement.

● Crystals are also known as True Solids, Whereas another name for Amorphous Solids is Super-Cooled Liquids.

Answer:AMORPHOUS SOLIDS:

  • the solids which have no definite geometric shape are called amorphous solids
  • they do not have regular arrangement of atoms, ions or molecules. therefore , they may be called as super-cooled liquids
  • they do not posses sharp melting point. they are soft on heating.
  • these have indefinite heats of fusion
  • they are called pseudo solids
  • they do not have water molecules
  • they soften on heating and ultimately become mobile over a wide range of temperature.

Examples: glass, rubber, plastic etc

      CRYSTALLINE SOLIDS:

  • the solids which have a definite regular and three- dimensional geometric shape are called crystalline solids  e.g NaCl has cubic shape.
  • they have complete regular arrangement of atoms, ions and molecules.
  • they posses sharp melting point
  • they have definite heat of fusion
  • they are called true solids
  • they may have water in their crystals called water of crystallization.
  • they do not soften on heating . instead they melt at a fixed temperature.
  • Examples: diamond, NaCl  etc.
