On the basis of embryonic leaves or cotyledons angiosperms are divided into 2 classes- dicotyledons and monocotyledons.
*Dicots are flowering plants which are characterised by 2 cotyledons in the seed e.g. Pea,rose, cotton, etc.
*monocots are flowering plants which are characterised by the presence of single cotyledon in the seed e.g. Banana, palms, grass, etc.
