Direct democracy (also known as pure democracy ) is a form of
democracy in which people decide (e.g. vote on, form consensus on) policy initiatives directly.
Indirect democracy , or representative democracy , is when citizens elect representatives to make laws on their behalf. This is what most modern countries have today.

Direct democracy is when the people vote directly on the laws or other issues that are proposed. While Indirect democracy is when the people elect representatives who vote on laws on the behalf of the people.
