Dear Student,

◆ Difference between Homozygous and heterozygous -

  • Homozygous trait has two identical alleles while heterozygous trait has different alleles.
  • Homozygous produce same type of gametes while heterozygous forms different gametes.
  • Homozygous doesnt show extra vigour while heterozygous show extra vigour.
  • Homozygous can be either homozygous dominant or homozygous recessive. Heterozygous can be complete dominance, incomplete dominance and co-dominance.
  • Homozygous example - YY, yy. Heterozygous example - Yy.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you...

Difference between homozygous and heterozygous:

Homozygous:

  • Homozygous means both the gene or locus match
  • These two 'dominant alleles' (AA) or 'two recessive alleles are homozygous', in which one is the 'dominant allele' and another one is the 'recessive allele'. The best example is, When a hybrid black guinea pig is crossed with pure a white guineapig the offspring then the resulting offspring is 1:2:1.

Heterozygous:

  • Heterozygous means both the gene or locus does not match.
  • The first filial generation results in 1:2:1. One 'heterozygous species' is obtained and '2 homozygous species are obtained'. This is based on genetic principles. This is the result of the parent allele. There are two such hybrid variety is obtained from the experiment. Hence the production is based on ratio 1:2:1.
