Hydraulics (Fluid) is an engineering discipline or applied science that focuses on the basic physical properties of a fluid medium (Such as mass, momentum, and energy) to better understand fluid flow. Its applications are wide ranging in engineering fields such as flood protection, Dam design, and river restoration. Hydrology is a broader field (typically earth sciences, not engineering) that studies surface and below ground interactions of water, quantities of water, and the landscape-movement of water. It is generally understood as the study of the global water cycle.
