Inductive effect is a permanent effect in which the sigma pair of electrons are shiftted towards the more electronegative atom along the length of the carbon atom.

This effect is effective till the three carbons and after that its effect becomes negligible..

The atom or group having the electron withdrawing tendency more than hydrogen shows -I effect while those having less tendency shows +I effect.

Inductive effect occurs does not required any conjugated system..

Mesomeric effect is also known as resonance effect.. It occurs only in the conjugated system.. The electron pair are de localized and thereby makes the compound stable.. This resonating structures are also called are canonical structures..
