Hello...

There are two major differences between mitosis and meiosis. First, meiosis involves not one, but two cell divisions. Second, meiosis leads to the production of germ cells, which are cells that give rise to gametes. Germ cells are different from somatic cells in a critical way.

Mitosis :

◽ It occurs in all somatic cells and gonads cells.

◽ It was termed by Walter Flemming.

◽ Single type division.

◽ Produces two cells.

◽ Doesn't produce variations.

◽ Occurs in both diploid and haploid cells.

◽ Number of chromosomes remains same.

Meiosis :

◽ Occurs in reproductive cells only.

◽ Termed by Farmer and Moore.

◽ Double division takes place.

◽ produce four haploid cells.

◽ Produce variations.

◽ Only occurs in diploid cell.

◽ Number of chromosomes reduced to half.
