Plastics can basically be classified into two categories:
Thermoplastics - these plastics do not undergoe any chemical change after being heated, and can be molded/welded afterwards.
Thermoset Plastics - these plastics undergoe an irreversible chemical reaction after being heated.
Elastomers are usually thermoset plastics, but can also be thermoplastics. They consist of long polymer chains that have many cross-linkages, kinda like tangled spaghetti. Because of this structure, they are very elastic, but return to their original position once the load is removed.
Hope this helped!
