Amebiasis is actually the parasitic infection caused by a protozoan Entamoeba histolytica. Most infections are asymptomatic and the disease is diagnosed as amoebic dysentery or amoebic liver abscess. It is usually transmitted by faecal-oral route, by anal-oral contact or by contact with dirty objects. Infection is spread by ingesting cyst form of parasite found in faeces. As amoebiasis spread via contaminated water and food. Due to which it is endemic in regions of the world with limited modern sanitation systems.
