Self-pollination :
(i) Self-pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from anther to stigma within the same flower.
(ii) It occurs either in the same flower or another flower of the same plant.
(iii) It occurs in the flowers which are genetically same.
Cross-pollination :
(i) Cross-pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from anther to stigma in another flower.
(ii) It occurs between two flowers which are on different plants but are of the same
(iii) It occurs between flowers which are genetically different.

In most cases, however, nature takes great care to prevent self-pollination. Cross-pollination usually produces more vigorous plants. This requires the transfer of pollen from one plant to the stigma of another plant of the same species. Flowers avoid self-pollination in several ways.
