- The Eastern Ghats is situated on the eastern margin of the Deccan Plateau whereas The Western Ghat lies on the western margin of the plateau.
- The elevation of Eastern Ghat is lower than the Western Ghat. The average elevation of Eastern Ghat is 600 meters whereas the average elevation of western ghat ranges any where near 900 ti 1600 meters.
- The Eastern Ghat have many rivers which cuts across them like the Mahanadi, Godavari, Kaveri and Krishna whereas the Western Ghat has no major river cutting across it.
- The Eastern Ghat have mountain chains which are not continuous but are denuded by rivers flowing into the Bay of Bengal. The Western Ghat has continuous mountain chain which can be crossed only through passes.
