LADAKH DESERT :

It is located in the eastern part of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a cold,mountainous and rocky desert surrounded by the Karakoran Range in the north and Zanskar Mountains in the south . Various mountain passes such as the Khardung La are the major routes to reach this cold desert.

The extreme temperatures and lack of water are not suitable for the growth of vegetation. These plants have long roots for reaching the water table and acquiring moisture. The small and spiky leaves control loss of water through transpiration.
