The Sahara desert is an extensive hot desert covering almost the whole of Northern Africa. It is bounded by the Atlantic ocean in the west, the Red sea in the east , the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlas Mountains in the north, and a zone of fixed dunes in the south.

CLIMATE
The climate of the Sahara is generally dry. The northern part of the desert receives some precipitation in winter, while the southern part receives some rainfall in summer.
In the Sahara, the summers are very hot. The winters are quite cold in the subtropical north, but milder in the tropical south. Diural as well as seasonal temperatures very widely, especially in the north. The western coastal refion has a relatively cooler climate due to influence of the cold Canaries Current flowing along the coast.
