In upright pyramids the energy, number or biomass of producer is more as compared to herbivores and carnivores.
In inverted pyramids energy, number or biomass of carnivores is more as compared to producers and herbivores. For example pyramid of biomass in case of sea habitat, where biomass of phytoplankton (producers) is less than the biomass of small fishes (herbivores) and large fishes (carnivores)

UPRIGHT PYRAMID:
1)in this type of pyramid the number and biomass of organism at producer level is high which keeps on decreasing at each trophic level.
2)The base bar comprises of producers in large number.
3)Energy pyramid is always upright.
INVERTED PYRAMID:
1)In this type of pyramid the number of biomass and organisms at producer level is lowest and keep on increase at each trophic level.
2)The base bar comprimises of producers in small number.
3)pyramid of number and pyramid of biomass is inverted.
