distinguish between zinc nitrate and lead nitrate by heating
Answers
Zinc nitrate
When u heat Zinc nitrate(Zn(NO3)2)
on strong heating it melts to form a sticky white mass which gives off steamy vapours. On heating more strongly the white Residue gives of reddish brown fumes which turns moist blue Litmus Paper red the Residue is pale yellow when hot and on cooling it changes into white colour
water vapour Nitrogen dioxide and oxygen are the gases which evolve on heating it the Residue is zinc oxide
Lead Nitrate
it gives of a reddish brown gas which turns moist blue Litmus Paper red on strong heating it crumbles with a crackling noise the Residue is reddish brown when hot on cooling it changes to yellow and partly fuses in the glass and stains it yellow
the gas evolved are Nitrogen dioxide and oxygen the Residue is lead(II) oxide.
