It is the actual length of the path covered by a moving object. It is the shortest distancebetween the initial position and the final position of the moving object. It is a vector quantity (magnitude and direction). ... In the case of body not moving at all, both the magnitudes (distance and displacement) will be zero

Dear Student,
◆ Difference between distance and displacement -
- Distance is actual distance covered by moving body on journey while displacement is shortest distance between initial and final position.
- Distance is scalar quantity while displacement is vector quantity.
- Distance is always more than or equal to displacement of moving object.
- Displacement is independent of path while distance changes with change in path.
- Distance covered by a moving body is always positive while displacement of moving body can be positive, zero or negative.
Hope this helps you quickly...
