The features that are passed on from one generation to the next are known as inherited feautures. The information for the feature is encoded on the DNA. Eg. Eye colour, Hair colour, attached earlobes, etc are all inherited features.

The features that are not passed on from one generation to the next are known as acquired feautures. They are not inherited as they do not change the information encoded on DNA. Eg. Swimming, ability to play a musical instrument, etc
