The domestic distraction back at home was the depression. Because before the time of World War II, the stock markets crashed and caused the great depression. It caused people to be unemployed and forced them to be living on the streets. Jobs were scarce all around and people did anything that they could to make money. In 1930, 4 million American's were out of a job and rose to 6 million in 1931. Hoover, as president during that time, thought he should not help the economy out and just let it take course. But, by doing this, it just got worse. It wasn't until Roosevelt became president and saw that he needed to help the people out.
In Europe, they also felt the affects of the great depression. The depression spread world wide and was affecting everyone. In some parts of Europe, 70% of the population was out of a job. Because there was no money for people, their morals were down and were looking for change. Later, Hitler would convince them that he could fix all of their problems. No one was buying goods, so factories shut down and the production was stopping.
The main thing that Europe was worried about was keeping peace with everyone. That is because World War I left Europe in terrible shape and broke.
