Question:

Divide 120 into two parts, so that three times the smaller one is equal to twice the large one .

Solution:

Let the smaller part be x

and the large part be (120-x).

Now;

According to the question;

Three times the smaller part is equal to twice the large part .

Thus,

=> 3x = 2(120 - x)

=> 3x = 240 - 2x

=> 3x + 2x = 240

=> 5x = 240

=> x = 240/5

=> x = 48

Thus,

Smaller part = x = 48

Larger part = 120 - x = 120 - 48 = 72

Hence,

120 should be divided in the parts 48 and 72.
