divide 72 in to two parts, then the larger part exceeds the smaller part by 12. Find both the parts

let the two parts be x and y.
therefore x + y = 72 …(1)
according to the question, the larger part exceeds the smaller part by 12.
=> y = x + 12 …(2)
by (1) and (2) we get,
=> x + x + 12 = 72
=> 2x + 12 = 72
=> 2x = 72 - 12
=> 2x = 60
=> x = 60/2
=> x = 30
hence, the two parts are :-
• x = 30
• y = x + 12 = 30 + 12 = 42
verification :-
= 30 + 42
= 72
