"In each of the following numbers, replace * by the smallest number to make it divisible by 9. The number next to 16, which is divisible by 9 is 18. The number next to 11, which is divisible by 9 is 18. ∴ Required smallest number = 18 – 11 =7."

The Divisibility Rule for 9 is used to determine if a number is divisible by 9. You can also call it the test of divisibility for 9. A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 9. For example, with 123,456, the sum of its digits is 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 = 21
