The french society was divided into three estates:
1.clergy
2.nobles
3. peasants or people
the first two estates need not pay the tax levied by the king.Whereas the maximum number of people were the third estate who were not so rich as the first two estates had to pay the tax or 'tille' the tax levied by the king and 'tithe' the tax levied by the church. This led to the french revolution and the division in the society before french revolution.
