Divya has been the district sales manager of Vikhyat Ltd. from last five years. She was recognized by her peers
and supervisors as a person who manages the department in an efficient way. Also everyone realized that she
is an extremely ambitious and is seeking a top-level position. Once the marketing manager retired and Divya
applied for the position. When the search was done the decision was taken to fill the vaccant position from
external sources. Divya's supervisors felt that Divya might displease the other managers if she tried to take
credit for their work and as a result their performance would suffer. Due to this Divya became discouraged and
her work deteriorated. She started lacking in her performance. Although her sales staff continued to be productive.
When the new marketing manager Atul took over, one of the foremost problem he confronted was how to get
Divya's former performance book.
(1) Identify and explain the element of one of the function of management being discussed in the above case
which Divya was lacking.
(ii) Also identify and explain the features of other function of management through which Atul can have Divya's
former performance back.
Scientific Management means knowing exactly what you want men to do and seeing that they do it in the best
