◆OXYGEN react--
The balanced reaction is 2Mg(s) + O2(g) = 2MgO(s). This is a highly exothermic reaction and the product, MgO is a very refractory material. In this reaction Mg gives 2 electron to Oxygen . When pure magnesium (silver) is left out in air it reacts with oxygen to form the solid magnesium oxide (dull gray).
◆ water react----
It reacts in this way: Mg + 2H₂O → Mg(OH)₂ + H₂.
