a rainbow is produced by the Dispersion of white sun light by raindrops in the atmosphere.
Each raindrop acts as a tiny glass prism splitting the sunlight into a spectrum.
the raindrops in the atmosphere act like many small prism.
As white sun light enters and leave these rain drops, the various coloured rays present in white sunlight are reflected by different amounts due to which an Arc of seven colours of rainbow is formed in the sky.
