I’m sympathetic to the question. Among the goals of economics is to find a way to merge micro- and macro-economics, that is, to find ways of looking at how decisions made by micro-economic agents (consumers, businesses, workers, managers) can be “aggregated” into explanations of business cycles and economic growth. This is really no different than the search by physicists for a theory that unifies the Standard Model of particle theory with the theory of gravity.

Time might change that answer, but my money is on the physicists.
