Red, green and black are some of the dark colors that contain copper sulphate, mercury sulphite and leadoxide in high content. These harmful solvents when mixed with colors candirectly lead to skin related problems like rashes, skin cancer, allergy, etc. ... Once the colour gets dry, it results in dry and brittle hair.

The dry "gulal" and the wet colours of today are not derived from natural sources. They contain chemicals, shiny particles of mica and even lead, which not only irritates the skin, but collects on the scalp too. Since Holi is played outdoors, exposure to the sun can have a detrimental effect on the skin.
