Do THIS
Take a ruled sheet of paper. Draw (in thick colour) two parallel lines l and m.
Draw a transversalt t to the lines l and m. Label angle 1and angle 2 as shown [Fig 5.28(i)].
Place a tracing paper over the figure drawn. Trace the lines l ,m and t
Slide the tracing paper along t, untill coincides with m.
You find that angle 1 on the traced figure coincides with angle2 of the original figure,
In fact, you can see all the following results by similar tracing and sliding activity.
(i) angle1-angle2
(ii) angle3-angle-4
3.angle 5- angle-6
4.angle7-angle-8

Given : two parallel lines l and m and transversal t

Trace the lines l ,m and t  Slide the tracing paper along t, untill coincides with m.

To Find : Corresponding Angles are equal or not

angle1-angle2

angle3-angle-4

angle 5- angle-6

angle7-angle-8

Solution:

Properties of angles formed by transversal line  with two parallel lines :

• Corresponding angles are congruent.

• Alternate angles are congruent.  ( Interiors & Exterior  both )

• Interior angles are supplementary. ( adds up to 180°)

∠1 = ∠2    Corresponding angles are congruent.

∠3 = ∠4    Corresponding angles are congruent.

∠5 = ∠6    Corresponding angles are congruent.

∠7 = ∠8    Corresponding angles are congruent.
